The Stars at Night...

One of the coolest things about being in Namibia is that at night you get completely natural views of the stars.  We are staying on farmland owned by Cheetah Conservation Fund and the nearest town is about 45km away.  Also, the nearest town is only about 30,000 people or so it's not a big town at all.  All that plus the fact that the center we are staying at generates it's own power which shuts off at 11pm each night makes for some very surreal star viewing with minimal to no light pollution.

To test out just how vivid the skies are Stephanie and took a night time portrait lit only by the moon with the Milky Way in the background.  We set the camera on a timer for a 30 second exposure and then held still as best we could!  The result turned out fantastic and hopefully this gives a glimpse into how amazing the skies really are in Namibia!  Having lived in and around New York City for last bunch of years we're still amazed that this what the skies actually look like.  When we lived in NYC we were lucky if we saw one or two stars on a good night!
